In December 2016, Wereldhave and Finnkino signed an agreement to open a new cinema in Itis Shopping Centre, Wereldhave Finland’s flagship centre in East Helsinki, at the end of 2018.
Burrows Little had previosuly been employed to create a unique cinema concept for the cinema concept and our brief was to analyse the existing centre and the space occupied by one of the major tenants, Anttila. The Antilla department store occupied approx. 6,500 m² of shopping space. The new cinema will be arranged over 2 levels with the entrance and 5 screens on the ground floor and a further 3 screens and an IMAX on the first floor. The cinema occupies +/- 4,500 sq m GLA and is supported by restaurants and cafes.
The redevelopment will be an excellent addition to the leisure offer with the shopping centre aiming to strengthen its position as the leading centre in Finland. Adding a cinema to Itis will change the entire nature of the shopping centre, widening the offer and creating a solid basis to further improve the food and beverage and leisure offer. Burrows Little are currently employed as cinema architects advising the Helsinki professional team on all aspects of cinema exhibition and technical aspects of the cinematography.
